North India

February 26, 2007

North India is a very interesting place. It is the birthplace of the  Hindu and Buddha religions and people there believe that the cow is very sacred. It also has a river named the Ganges. This river is located in the city of Varanasi.  The people there consider the river to be holy. People there can bath and wash their clothes in it, but it’s one of the most polluted rivers in the world. Since it’s considered holy, they burn up dead bodies and throw the ashes into the river. Also they throw dead animal bodies into the river. North India also has a beautiful monument called the Taj Mahal. It was built by Shah Jahan, the emperor of the Mushal Empire, who built it for a tomb for his wife who died giving birth to their 14th child. The construction started in 1631 in the city of Agra and took them 22 years to complete it. Later he was also buried there. Another fact is that in North India people can ride on elaphants.  I think that North India would be a very exiting place to visit.

Math Class on 2/12/07

February 12, 2007

Today in math class we started on multiplying fractions. But first we got our quizzes back that we did on Friday. Everyones test scores were good. Then we learned the formula so that we could multiply fractions. Here it is, a over b times c over d. In other words would multiply the numerators together and the denominators together. Here is an example, to do 3 over 5 times 2 over 3. First you would multiply 3 and 2 which equals 6, then multiply 5 and 3 which equals 15. So the fraction would be 6 over 15.Here is another hint when you multiply a whole number with a fraction you make the whole number a fraction. Here is an example, to love the problem 6 times 3 over 5 we make 6 a fraction by making it 6 over 1 so we still keep the same value. So we multiply 6 times 3 which equals 18 and 1 times 5 which equals 5 so that our answer is 18 over 5. Anyway after doing some examples on the board we worked on correcting any mistakes on our quiz, then finished our practice CMT packets we started on Friday, then finally did pages 140-141 in J1. So that is what we did today in math class today.

Try and figure this one out. Send me your answer as a comment.  I will post the first 10 people who got the right answer.

Mrs.Frisby And The Rats Of NIMH

February 8, 2007

The book I read for literature circle was Mrs.Frisby And The Rats Of NIMH. This heartwarming story is about a mouse named Mrs.Frisby. She has 4 children named Teresa, Martin, Cynthia and Timothy and her husband Jonathen died earier that year. One day Timothy got sick with pneumonia and moving day was 5 days away. Every year Mr.Fitzgibbon plows the garden and the mice have to get out of the way! Now if Timothy goes outside he could die from the cold. So Mrs.Frisby has a problem; does she move and risk Timothy dying, or does she keep her whole family behind and probably get plowed! Later she meets a crow named Jeramey who Mrs.Frisby saves from Dragon the cat. Since he is in her dept he takes her to see the wise old owl who tells her to go see the Rats for her problem. Will she convince the Rats to help her? Read to find out. This is a good book for people who like fantasy and animals. 6 stars out of 5. This book is by Robert C. O’Brien.

Scribe Post for 2/1/07 on Math

February 8, 2007

That day in math class after a lot of hard testing[ and a very long wait] we got our mid-years back. Mostly every one did a good job. After going over the homework Ms.V tought us how to reduce fractions. Here’s how, lets use the fraction 3 over 12. First you would list the factors of 3 and 12, then see what the greatest common factor is[list the factors in a factor rainbow]. For 3 over 12 it’s 3. Then you would divide the numerator and the denominator by 3 to get 1 over 4. After we got good at those we reduced the fractions on p.149. I learned alot that day.
